Do you find it difficult to remember during exams? Do you fear to go blank when you enter exam hall or appear for any test ?
You are not alone, It happens with each one of us, at sometime or other.
But there are ways in which we can tackle this situation. Human brain is trainable. Performing well in exam requires a well trained memory and that training varies from student to student depending on the type of learner you are.
So, What are those techniques?
I'll share some of the best techniques used by experts all over the world. Not all of them might suit you, all you have to do is, find method that best works for you.
But I'd suggest try other methods too, It will definitely help you during exams or in normal days, to remember things easily.
1. Read Out Loud
Rather than simply reading the stuff Speak out loudly, you will be surprised to know how much more you can remember when you've said it out loud.
Research shows that you are 50% more likely to remember something if you speak it loud instead of simply reading it over and over again.
2. Mind Palace
This is really interesting concept. You must be already familiar with the term "Mind Palace" if you're a fan of Sherlock, but just in case you aren't, let's understand what it is.
This method was originally known as "Method of loci".
According to Wikipedia-
"The method of loci (loci being Latin for "places") is a method of memory enhancement which uses visualizations with the use of spatial memory, familiar information about one's environment, to quickly and efficiently recall information."
Mind Palace uses your imagination and can be used to memorize huge volumes of information.
It work's like this:
1. Visualize a house or a road. Now populate your mental image with details, such as what you see in the corner or other places of room or on the sides of the road.
2. Now associate every single object you can see in your mental image with information you want to remember such as math formulas or your shopping list items.
3. Think about each connected object and information in as much detail as possible so that you don't forget it easily.
4. To recall the information during exams or whenever needed, all you have to do is just trace back your steps through the house or road and select the object you have associated with information.
5. It doesn't stop there, you can even add some more objects and information to your existing memory palace or mental image of your house, as and when needed.
Mind Palace is being used since Greek and Roman times. It needs practice to get better at it
3. Build a Story around the Topic
This method can also be used to help your brain remember big chunks of information. It is based on the idea of breaking down big information into smaller ones and then creating story around smaller pieces.
This method works as we create stories closer to practical life and it is easier to remember things which relate to practical objects or situations.
4. Exercise
It has been proven that exercise can boost your memory power. If not more, at least 10-20 minutes of walk will do good for your brain.
5. Study break
It is really important to take regular study breaks as it helps your brain absorb more information and also keep you focused. Take a short break after an hour of study or before starting a new topic.
6. Get a good night's sleep
Eight hour's sleep is recommended by scientists. It is because during that period our brain performs many vital tasks such as processing information we've learnt during the day and putting them into long-term memory etc.
It may not sound like, but it is one of the most important things you can do for success in exam.
So follow these methods and help your brain absorb more during exams. These methods can also be used in daily life to strengthen your memory.
